Hello friends!
It’s Mental Health Awareness Month but wouldn’t you label the past four years Mental Health Awareness Month? NEVER BEFORE have we been so friggin’ aware of mental health and how some of us…many of us…honestly I would say ALL of us, to some extent, struggle.
And that’s a very important point - suffering in the form of depression, anxiety, rumination, overwhelm, etc, they FEEL hella personal but…they are pretty universal. You might want to think of them as “the depression,” “the anxiety,” “the rumination,” - common experiences we all go through. I had a tough family situation this week and it helped A LOT to think of it as “the feeling of being lonely and disappointed in a family.” I am sure I’m not the only person who feels that from time to time and it was a tremendous help to remember that!
So if you are dealing with “the depression,” “the feeling bad,” “the feeling bored,” “the choose your own adventure,” I hope these prompts help you discover deeper insights into yourself. Because, the more you know…the more you can help yourself.
Monday: My Safe Space
Begin by describing a place where you feel safe and calm. It can be real or imagined. What does it look like? What sounds do you hear there? What makes this place ideal for your peace of mind?
Be specific!
Bonus points: think of this as a place you can return to again and again - I sure do! Mine’s a glass box in a redwood forest where I burn a Diptyque candle in the scent Feu de Bois.
