Which brings us to this week’s theme…

Motion Before Emotion: Let’s Dive Deeper

In Friday’s newsletter, I told you about how I went from “lowly digital producer” to Executive in Charge of Key & Peele… by turning a janky printer station into a front-row seat to my dream. It wasn’t because I believed in myself at first. It was because I moved. The belief came later, AFTER the doing.

We often wait for confidence before we act. But here’s the truth:

  • Action creates momentum.

  • Momentum creates proof.

  • Proof gives us unshakable confidence.

Journaling is one of the most powerful ways to start moving - especially when you're not sure where to begin. It helps clear the mental clutter and uncover your “next right step.”

Try These Journal Prompts to Create Motion:

  • What’s “THE THING” I want right now? What’s blocking me from it?

    • Ex: Back then, the thing I wanted was clear: I wanted to work in Development. Everything else - the “you didn’t go to an agency,” the “you don’t have the right background,” the imposter syndrome - was just noise. I focused only on what I did want.

  • What’s one physical step I could take toward the life I want - even if I don’t believe in myself yet?

    • Ex: When I didn’t believe in myself enough to picture a career in Development, I moved my physical body anyway. That one move changed my whole life.

  • What would I do if I believed I might be capable?

    • Ex: I didn’t fully believe I was capable when I started. But I acted as if I belonged. I read scripts, asked questions, set up meetings, and listened like my life depended on it.

  • What’s one moment from my past that shows I moved anyway, even without belief?

    • Ex: I’ve done this more times than I can count. I’ve applied to jobs I didn’t feel qualified for, asked for help when I felt unworthy, and shown up to rooms I thought I didn’t belong in.

Here’s Where Community Comes In

Only you can create the motion. Only you can take that first bold, awkward, beautiful step toward the life you want. But you don’t have to do it alone. We’re here to support you in the chat!

I loved talking to you about last week’s post:

Use the Subscriber Chat to share what you’re working on, what step you’re taking, or even where you’re feeling stuck. This community is here for accountability, encouragement, and reminding you (gently and often) that you’re not crazy - you’re just growing.

Bonus: Understanding Your Emotions

Sometimes we can’t move forward because we don’t have language for what we’re feeling. That’s where the Emotion Wheel comes in.

Included below is:

  • A video where I explain how to use the Emotion Wheel in your journaling practice

  • Your very own printable Emotion Wheel to keep on hand anytime you need help naming what’s going on inside

Remember: naming the emotion helps tame the emotion. And once you know where you are emotionally, you’re that much closer to choosing how to move next.

Until next time, friends.
