Hi. It’s the Fourth of July.
Which means you have every excuse to do… almost nothing.
I know it’s hard. I know your brain wants to sneak in “just a little work” or clean out your inbox or finally reorganize the closet or solve your entire career (me, what I want to do, NOW).
But for the love of God, take today off.
You are allowed to rest. You are allowed to enjoy your life. You are allowed to not be productive for 24 hours.
Here are 5 things I officially approve of you doing instead:
1. Go outside and stare at something.
A tree. A squirrel. The sky. Literally anything that isn’t a screen.
2. Read the fun book you keep saving for vacation.
You know the one. The novel that has nothing to do with personal growth. I read this a couple of summers ago and LOVED it. It’s romcom that centers on, “Amy, a semi-closeted queer baker and bartender in mid-2010s Oklahoma who has spent a lifetime putting other people’s needs before her own…” sounds super specific, I found it delightfully universal.
3. Make something yummy to eat.
In the wise words of Jennifer Coolidge…
And by “make” I mean “assemble.” I have been cutting up watermelon and dousing it in Tajín.
4. Wear comfy clothes.
Not the cute-but-complicated outfit. The linen. The sweat shorts. The t-shirt with the holes you love. Nothing clingy. Nothing fussy.
5. Call your friend who makes you laugh so hard you snort.
Let it be easy today. Let it be light. If you don’t have Fourth of July plans - GOOD JOB. You took it to the next level.
That’s it. That’s the email.
Happy Fourth, my loves. Rest like it’s your job.
And tell me how you’re resting in the chat!
I’ve been helping out with a camp for my little cousins this week, and thankfully they go home today. It’s been a whirlwind but I will be spending the day in my pjs, sitting on the porch crocheting and listening to an audiobook like the peace-seeking lady I am.
Baked some cinnamon rolls, floated in the pool, took a nap, and now I’m lounging at pub until it’s to watch people risk life and limb lighting things on fire. 🥳
